Difference Between Cordyceps Militaris and Cordyceps Sinensis

Difference Between Cordyceps Militaris and Cordyceps Sinensis

Cordyceps is a special medicinal mushroom that has been used for health purposes in Asia for thousands of years. There are two main types of Cordyceps: Cordyceps militaris and Cordyceps sinensis. Although both are known for their medicinal benefits, there are several significant differences in their properties and benefits. These differences are quite substantial in terms of appearance, breeding method, nutritional properties, health benefits, price, and availability.

Appearance and location

Cordyceps sinensis is a special type of mushroom found in the high mountain regions of China, Nepal, and Tibet. Its special thing is that it grows naturally on caterpillars which is a special type of worm. It requires great effort to collect it. Its color is dark brown or yellowish brown. Due to its natural occurrence, its availability is very limited, which makes its price very high and not everyone can access it.

Cordyceps militaris, on the other hand, is grown in an artificial environment, such as a laboratory or farm. This mushroom is bright orange or yellow in color and does not require any caterpillars to grow. Therefore, it can be easily prepared. Its price is also quite reasonable, due to which even ordinary people can easily buy and use it.

Nutritional properties

There is a clear difference between these two types in terms of nutritional properties. The main active ingredients such as Cordycepin and Adenosine are found in relatively small amounts in Cordyceps sinensis, but it is of particular importance in traditional Chinese medicine. In contrast, Cordyceps militaris contains both of these ingredients in high amounts. This is why Cordyceps militaris is being widely used in modern medicine and health supplements.

Health Benefits

When it comes to health benefits, the benefits of both types are somewhat similar, but there are clear differences in specific medicinal properties. Cordyceps sinensis is traditionally considered beneficial for physical energy, increased immunity, and respiratory and kidney health. In comparison, Cordyceps militaris has more antioxidant properties, which are helpful in improving immunity as well as against cancer. Due to this, it is commonly used in supplements and health products.

Methods of use

There are also some differences in the methods of use. Cordyceps sinensis is mostly used in traditional medicine in the form of tea or soup in dried form. In contrast, Cordyceps militaris is available in various forms such as capsules, powder, tea, and other health drinks.

Price and availability

There is also a clear difference between in terms of price and availability. Cordyceps sinensis is way more expensive due to its natural rarity and its availability is also limited. On the other hand, Cordyceps militaris is readily available and relatively inexpensive than Cordyceps sinensis.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the decision depends on your health needs and personal preferences. If you want to get natural, traditional, and rare medical benefits, Cordyceps sinensis may be a good choice. But if you want health benefits that are readily available, effective, and inexpensive, Cordyceps militaris is a more suitable option.
